Over the last few days we have seen a beta version of the Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1). As you may know the update does not bring any new features to Windows 7, it simply installs previously released security and bug fixes. There has been reports of performance boosts after installing SP1, but I have not witnessed this myself.
Once you have installed the Windows 7 SP1 package you will need to restart your computer, you will then be greeted with the text “Windows 7 Evaluation copy, Build 7601″ on your desktop in the bottom right-hand corner (see screen shot below). This text will be automatically removed when you install the final SP1 package when it is released.
Below you will find information and build numbers on the latest Windows 7 SP1 leaked packages. Also download links for both the 32bit and 64bit Service Pack Installers. If you want to install and give SP1 a whirl then you can but please remember this is is only a beta so not the final version.
