HackMii Installer 0.7 and Homebrew Channel 1.0.7 Released

July 29th, 2010 by Chris | 2 Comments | Filed in Nintendo Wii

nintendo wii HackMii Installer 0.7 and Homebrew Channel 1.0.7 ReleasedGreat news for people who updated their Nintendo Wii to System Menu 4.3, a new version of the HackMii Installer has been released which installs the new Homebrew Channel 1.0.7 which is compatible with System Menu 4.3. This is probably what many people have been waiting for.

If you are running a System Menu lower than 4.3 there are some great bug fixes and feature changes so its still worth updating to the latest Homebrew Channel.

As most of you know you cannot use the bannerbomb method to install this so you will need to have a genuine copy of Lego Indiana Jones.

I will be creating install instructions for the Homebrew Channel on a Nintendo Wii with System Menu 4.3 so look out for a new post over the next couple of days.

You can see a list of changes for the new HackMii Installer, Homebrew Channel and BootMii below.

DARKCORP v1.1 Released

July 5th, 2010 by Chris | 49 Comments | Filed in Nintendo Wii

Nintendo Wii SoftmodDARKCORP (formerly known as cIOSCORP) for the Nintendo Wii allows you to load backup games directly from the Disc Channel exactly the same way you would load normal game discs.

This may not work with newer Nintendo Wii’s (unless you change the drive) as they simply cannot read DVD Discs.

The benefits of DARKCORP is the fact you do not have to open the console to chip it before you can play backup games, you simply install DARKCORP and that’s it.

Below you will find full install instructions, changes in the v1.1 release and a link to download DARKCORP.

Update The Wii Shop Channel Without Updating Your Wii

June 30th, 2010 by Chris | No Comments | Filed in Nintendo Wii

nintendo wii Update The Wii Shop Channel Without Updating Your WiiIf you have softmodded your Wii you may be stuck with a Wii Shop Channel that needs to be updated before it will work. The problem with this is that it tells you to run the system update, which as you probably know will remove your softmod and homebrew files.

There is a way you can do this manually, which will only update your Shop Channel and not the systems firmware. I have only tried this on 4.2 though so it is up to you if you want to try it on other system menu versions.

Once you have updated the Shop Channel you will then be able to buy and download games with no problems. If you don’t use the Shop Channel there is no point following these instructions as it does not affect any other functions of the Wii.

Nintendo Wii 4.3 Safe Firmware Updater

June 25th, 2010 by Chris | 19 Comments | Filed in Nintendo Wii

nintendo wii Nintendo Wii 4.3 Safe Firmware UpdaterAs far as I am concerned I think it is a total waste of time updating your Nintendo Wii to the 4.3 Firmware if you have softmodded it. The only thing you will gain is support for a USB Camera (for Ubisoft’s Your Shape), the other only reason the 4.3 Firmware exists is to remove Homebrew Applications.

But if you still want to update to the 4.3 Firmware it is still possible using Firmware Updater v4.3. Some people like to have the latest firmware even if it has no real benefit.

Firmware Updater v4.3 will update your Nintendo Wii to the latest 4.3 Firmware and keep your Homebrew Applications intact. As I said above, there is no real point in updating but at least Firmware Updater v4.3 gives you the option.

Below you will find more info on the Firmware Updater v4.3 from the readme file.

New Nintendo Wii System Menu 4.3 Update

June 23rd, 2010 by Chris | No Comments | Filed in Nintendo Wii

Nintendo Wii SoftmodWell Nintendo have now released an update for the Nintendo Wii. The New System Menu 4.3 Update is causing all sorts of problems for owners of Softmodded Nintendo Wii’s. As a result of this I recommend you don’t update if you are using any softmods, including the Homebrew Channel as this is removed (if found) every time the Wii is booted.

Until the Homebrew Applications have been updated to work with the New System Menu 4.3 Update there is nothing we can do but hold tight on the current System Menu you are using.

I will be posting a new 4.3 Softmod Guide when all the Homebrew updates are available, but for now just stick with your current setup and DO NOT update.

Below is some more info on the System Menu 4.3 Update including what it does and what homebrew apps it disables.

How to Bypass the Nintendo Wii’s Parental Controls

May 1st, 2010 by Chris | 1 Comment | Filed in Nintendo Wii

Nintendo Wii SoftmodIt is surprising how many people I see around the internet who have forgotten the pin code for the Nintendo Wii’s Parental Controls.

It also seems to be quite common with people buying second hand Wii’s and never being given the pin code. Well don’t panic all is not lost, you have two options that should help.

Option one is to phone Nintendo using the number displayed on screen, the problem with this method is if you don’t know that answer to the security question they probably won’t help you.

Option two is to use a new tool I have found which will instantly generate an unlock code for you to type in. This code would be the same code you get if you phone up Nintendo.

I am sure you have all worked out that the second option is better, so let me tell you how to do it.

Nintendo Wii Homebrew Error Codes

April 27th, 2010 by Chris | 2 Comments | Filed in Nintendo Wii

Nintendo Wii SoftmodModifying your Nintendo Wii should be an easy task, but sadly this is not always the case.

Problems occur because of the vast amounts of configurations people are running on their Wii’s. You may have a different firmware (system menu) to someone else, you may have played a game that updated your Wii or it may be that you have previously softmodded your Wii.

Whatever the case  you may be confronted with an error code that you know nothing about. These error codes usually appear when installing homebrew applications, for example using WAD Manager or installing DarkCorp (cIOSCORP).

But regardless of how you are getting the error message, you still probably want to know what it means. I have put together a quick list below for you with explanations as to why you may be seeing the error code. If I have missed any please let me know.
